Catarina Costa has a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, UTAD, having completed her final project - funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation - on the synthesis of new squaraine dyes, evaluating their potential as fluorescent probes for detecting HSA, and in photodynamic therapy against cancer, an application she explored during an internship at CICS, UBI. She is currently in the first year of the Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at FFUP, aspiring to enter the pharmaceutical industry and to explore new areas of interest, such as Bioengineering and Materials Chemistry.
Duarte Monteiro is a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and currently a student of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering. He exhibits interest in various scientific areas, such as theory of computation, electronics and energy, while also maintaining a healthy relationship with adventure sports, an area where he worked for some years.
Patrícia Silva is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). During this journey, divided between the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) and Imperial College London, she developed her thesis focused on creating 3D in vitro models that mimic breast tissue to recreate interactions between tumor cells and their microenvironment to better understand tumor metastasis. In the last year, she decided to venture into entrepreneurship through LeGut, a device for detecting food intolerances, winning three acceleration programs.
Marta Redondo completed the Integrated Master's Degree in Bioengineering in 2020, with a specialization in Molecular Biotechnology at the Faculty of Engineering of the U.Porto (FEUP) in partnership with the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS). During her academic career she participated in several research projects in the area of health, biomaterials and tissue engineering. Currently, her work focuses on the development of antimicrobial microparticles to minimize contamination in wastewater treatment processes.
Hélder Cunha graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He is currently in the first year of the Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the same institution, specializing in Machine Design. With professional experience, he has been involved in the project of a precision cutting machine at Optima-Equipamentos CNC.
António Miguel Martins is a 1st-year student of the Master of Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Machine Design at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). Having a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, António Miguel has previous experience from an internship at CEiiA, where he was in charge of the project: "Development and Evaluation of a Test Rig for a Bicycle Handlebar". He aspires to innovate in the field of competitive cycling.
José Pedro Vasconcelos Ligeiro has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. At the moment, he's enroled in the second year of a Master's Programme in Innovation & Technological Entrepreneurship, in the same instituition. Joana Marques holds a Master’s degree in Biochemistry (FCUP) and is a PhD candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences (FFUP), developing her research work at i3S. Recently she did an 8-month internship at Leiden University Medical Centre (The Netherlands), in the scope of her PhD project. She has worked for almost 2 years in a pharmaceutical company (Bluepharma), having now several years of experience in R&D.
Francisca has a bachelor’s and a master's degree in Bioengineering - Biological Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. She currently works as an early-stage researcher at LEPABE, focusing on the use of carbon materials to minimize bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation on medical devices, namely urinary catheters.
Francisco Alves is a student of the Integrated Masters in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. Passionate about creativity supported by theory, he joined the U.Porto Inovação team as a way to be more involved with scientific pioneering. In his spare time he enjoys a good run, a game of chess or the company of a good book.
Rita Gaspar is currently synthesizing compounds with potential depigmenting activity, as part of her master’s thesis in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto. She graduated in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Aveiro, an institution that allowed her to contact with the Start Up Piauhy Labs, a company with which she collaborated in the R&D team. She was also involved in the Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Project “Severe”, supported by the Erasmus+ Program.
Tiago holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He is currently in the first year of the Master in Automation, and technology and innovation are the areas that most interest him. With everything open for the dissertation for the year ahead, he is looking for the perfect subject, probably in the field of computation.
Pedro Ferreira holds a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Porto Faculty of Engineering. He is currently a master's student in Mechanical Engineering in the field of Aeronautical and Vehicle Structures, at the same institution, working on his master's thesis focused on composite laminated materials, finite element method and fracture mechanics.
Rita Alfenim is a student of the Master in Nanomaterials Science and Technology, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. Her bachelor’s degree is in Chemistry, from the same institution. In the third year of her bachelor’s degree, Rita had the opportunity to explore the research environment while developing her project in the Medicinal Chemistry area. Currently, she is developing her master’s dissertation in the Nanomedicine field, by producing nanoparticles for drug delivery in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Rosa Caldeira holds a degree in Psychology from Instituto Superior da Maia and graduated in 2005. For 16 years she worked in the field of international logistics, having specialized herself in international trade and interpersonal relationships. Currently, she gives professional training in personal development, and is also creating a social project, taking into account the needs of the loneliest population.
After obtaining his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, José started his PhD in Sustainable Chemistry at LAQV-REQUIMTE (FCUP) in 2018, where he focused on the sustainable synthesis of new drugs for the photodynamic therapy of cancer. In 2020, under a Fulbright fellowship supported by the FCT, he studied the photocytotoxic effects of these drugs at Louisiana State University, USA. He is currently completing his doctoral thesis.
Maria Grácio is a master’s student in Engineering Physics at the Faculty of Sciences and at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. She has a bachelor's degree in Technological Physics, from the same institution. Currently, she’s finishing her dissertation in magnetic tunnel junctions for energy harvesting. During the master, she had the opportunity to do an internship at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), gaining experience in micro and nanofabrication of devices.
Carlos Brochado is a student of the integrated master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at FFUP. During his academic career he participated in entrepreneurship competitions (EIT Health Innovation Day, Pharma Start & Solve, Rush Game in Pharmaceutical Marketing, The eHealth Lab) in which he developed knowledge in the area of marketing, management and innovation. Member of the Rotaract Club of Felgueiras since 2019, currently holding the position of secretary, helping the association to develop activities and relevant projects to the community.
Diana Guimarães is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Porto. Her professional experience includes working as a Research Fellow as well as Invited Assistant Lecturer at the University of Porto and the role of Embedded Systems Engineer in the automotive industry. Her main interests are real-time embedded distributed systems and wearable technology.
Rui Rachão is a BSc graduate of "Chemistry with Complementary Formation Centered in Chemistry" (2021) by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP). As an undergraduate, he integrated research groups from distinct chemistry-related fields, such as computational biochemistry (protein structure) or organic synthesis (BSc thesis in flavylium chemistry). Currently, Rui is a student of the MSc "Applications in Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology" in the same institution (FCUP).
Faro, 1991. Ph.D. candidate in Biotechnology (ICBAS/FFUP) with a Biochemistry background. 9+ years of research experience in food chemistry, immunology, and genetic engineering of bacteria. Former member of the Biochemistry Students’ Forum. Former Erasmus+ intern at Saarland University, Germany. Actively engaged in events, training, and projects on entrepreneurship and innovation in health (EIT Health, BIP2020 “Biogadgets”). Co-developed and hosts a training course on multidisciplinary experimentation projects (Biolab, ICBAS).
Rita Bugalhão holds a Bachelor in Technological Physics and is a Master Student in Physics Engineering, both at the University of Porto. While being a student, she was an intern on different occasions at IFIMUP, where she is, now, researching thermomagnetic and triboelectric materials within the scope of her master’s thesis. Besides that, she has been President and Treasurer at the Physics, Physics Engineering and Astronomy Students Association of FCUP and Treasurer of PLANCKS 2021. Currently, she is Coordinator of the Employment Department at AEFCUP and will soon take office as a member of FCUP’s Representatives Council.
Cristina Pereira is a Master's student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, in the field of automation. She is currently working in a thesis in the field of automation/energy on the application of a centralized energy storage system for a micro-grid community. She is a member of the image and communication department of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Student core (NEEEC).
Beatriz is a master’s student in Engineering Physics at the Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. She has a multidisciplinary knowledge in the fields of mathematics, physics, semiconductors, lasers, technological tools and computing. Beatriz was once a firefighter and a waitress, took part in various international physics conferences and organized activities dedicated to physics students.
Lena Rauschenbach graduated in B.Sc. Business Education & Management Training at Leipzig University in 2020. Previously, she worked as a brand ambassador in the name of companies, such as Toyota and Daimler for more than four years. Receiving the zis scholarship in 2016 she was able to realize her project about young Slovakians and their opinion about the EU. Ever since she has a growing interest in mobility programs and intercultural exchanges. Currently, she's also doing an internship at the Business Development department at UPTEC.
Rafaela is a student of the Master´s in Communication and Management of Creative Industries at the University of Porto. She graduated with a Bachelor in Social Communication with a degree in Public Relations from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS / Brazil) in 2014. 2019 saw her start her MBA in Strategic Business Management at PUCRS and she taught Marketing and Entrepreneurship classes to high school students as a volunteer mentor. She has worked in the Communication and Marketing field for nine years and has experience working in large and diverse companies in Brazil.
Maria Antónia Nunes is a PhD student (Pharmaceutical Sciences - Nutrition and Food Science Specialty) at FF-UP. She holds a MSc in Consumer Sciences (FC-UP), a Degree in Nutritional Sciences (FCNA-UP) and a Degree in Nursing (ESEBB). She has professional experience and skills in Food Industry, Food Security, and Health Services as well as in Environmental and Quality Management Systems and Audits. Over the last years, she just devoted herself to Research focusing on innovative processes to recover bioactive compounds from agro-industry with impact in health and R&D of new products.
João Fonseca is a master student at the Master in Electrical Engineering at the University of Porto and his specialization is multimedia communications. He's currently enrolled in the SMC group at INESC TEC, working on his master's thesis about the multi-channel approaches for musical audio content analysis. He participated in university's student associations namely as Marketing and Sales Consultant at JuniFEUP and as a Resources Coordinator at Engenharia Rádio.,
Pedro Calonio is currently studying Physical engineering at University of Porto and he has knowlege in a broad range of subjects, such as mathematics, physics, semiconductors, nanotechnologies, optics and computational methods. He volunteered in a Porto's City Hall project called Porto Futuro, having supervised the learning of high school students. In September he will start studying on Julius-Maximilians-Universität (Germany), with emphasis on stochastic methods and statistical analysis, about which he will write his master thesis.
Engineering Physics student at FCUP that’s involved, since 2016, with ShARE UP an international think tank that develops national and international consulting projects as well as promoting discussion of current issues through talks. In the summer of the same year he got in contact with the startup world during the summer course of EIT Digital in Stockholm about IoT and entrepreneurship. Now he’s finishing his master thesis in the study of multiferroic materials using local probes, having had the chance of researching at CERN.
Tiago is a student of the Bachelor in Economics of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP) and since his first year in college he has closely contacted with today’s entrepeneurial reality: he is a FEP Junior Consulting alumnus, a junior entrepeneurship of which he was the Corporate Relations Executive Diretor, and he was also a member of the Business Case Solving club from FEP, called FICT (FEP International Case Team), where he had the opportunity of representing University of Porto at BIICC, in Oslo. Currently, he his the General-Manager of Sociedade de Debates da Universidade do Porto.
António has a BSc. and a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. He will soon start his PhD at the University of Granada in Spain in Particle Cosmology and Physics, namely in Gravitational Waves and Inflation. He has several interests from the exact sciences, as mathematics and physics, to the dynamics of society, history and human development. He is a private tutor to students in secondary and higher education, mostly engineering students, in the basic subjects of Physics and Mathematics.
Luís holds a Bachelor and a Master's degree in Engineering Physics from the Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (2018). He has multidisciplinary know-how in the fields of mathematics, physics, materials science, electronics, optics, and computing. Between 2017 and 2018, Luís collaborated as a trainee at CeNTI-Centre of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials, where he investigated the Shape Memory Alloys and developed an innovative prototype as part of his master thesis project.

Miguel Maia holds a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (2013). He worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a Stability and Validation Specialist for 5 years, and in 2019 started to dedicate himself fully to its doctoral degree in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at FFUP. His PhD project is focused in the design and synthesis of novel inhibitors for BACE-1, an enzyme essential to the formation of Aβ proteins involved in Alzheimer’s disease.

Priscilla holds a PhD in Public Policies (Innovation, Intellectual Property and Development), with a background in Microbiology. She has experience in patent landscape studies, namely in drafting and technological assessment, in which she has previously been a lecturer and trainer. She was involved in technological development and quality control of viral vaccines and biopharmaceuticals – molecular biology and microbiological assays – having experienced technology transfer process in practice. Complementary training in negotiation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

Natacha Rosa received her Master's degree in Bioengineering with specialization in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). In 2011, she explored her interest in the nanotechnology field, through research work in two different projects. In 2012, as a result of a long standing fascination in the medical implants’ field and the increasing curiosity on the not fully comprehended world of bone biomechanics, she decided to embrace the opportunity to pursue a knowledge consolidation through a PhD, dedicated to the study of bone healing enhancement based on mechanical stimulation. Natacha Rosa is a soon to be Mechanical Engineer PhD graduate from FEUP.

Sofia Silva has a degree in Clinical and Health Psychology from the Instituto Universitário da Maia and a master's degree in Psychosocial Intervention with Children, Youth and Families from the University of Minho. Currently is attending a PhD program in Clinical and Health Psychology. Since 2005, e has worked in social intervention with children, youth and families in situations of psychosocial vulnerability and has professional experience in the United States of America and Portugal. More recently, has integrate the Research Project IoGeneration - State of iodine in Portugal: role of supplementation in school units, developed by Cintesis.

Francisca graduated in Clinical and Community Psychology at Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of University of Porto (2013) where, after finishing her Master, she worked as a Clinical Psychologist. She afterwards concluded a Post-Graduation on People Management at Porto Business School (2013). In Human Resources, after working at a Consultant and later on at the Startup world, both in Porto and Berlin, as a recruiter and later on as an HR Manager, she's back to the city where she was born and raised. As a parallel activity, she writes and publishes poetry, one of her biggest passions.

Mohamed Adnan Aboulaïch has a Master degree in Environmental Economics and Management from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, Portugal (2017). Lídia Fonseca holds a PhD in Pharmacy, specialty Microbiology, from the University of Lisbon (FF-UL). Previously, she worked for several years in academic research in the field of Virology, both in Portugal (Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and Instituto de Medicina Molecular) and in the USA (University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute). More recently, she has been working in consulting on national and european R&D projects (FP7 and H2020) and on the translation of scientific manuscripts. Lídia has also a BSc in Applied Chemistry - Biotechnology (FCT-UNL) and a MSc in Clinical Microbiology (FM-UL).

Francisca was a Young Professional Trainee at the European Union Intellectual Property Ofice, where she worked with the Data Protection Officer and as a trade mark examiner.

Rui Costa has a Master's degree in Engineering Physics at the FCUP since 2016. During his higher education, he developed the interest in entrepreneurship with the participation in contests of business ideas with the business project WEStoreOnTEX. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Physics at FCUP in the area of functional textile for energy storage and external researcher at REQUIMTE and IFIMUP at FCUP. Since child age, Carlos Ferreira is passionate about health, technology and entrepreneurship. Patrícia Romeiro (PhD) has a solid academic and professional (consultancy and project management) background and experience in Economic Geography and in Innovation. She started her career as a researcher in Spain (CSIC) and she is currently linked to CEGOT-University of Porto. Alexandra Coelho, born in Porto, has a master's degree and a degree in Information Science from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, respectively. João Moutinho was born in Paris, France, in 1980. He received the B.Sc. degree, the M.Sc. degree and its Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Porto, Portugal. He is currently involved in the process of creating a business from scientific and technological knowledge. Pedro Rebelo Tavares, natural from Albergaria-a-Velha, has a Licenciate degree in Law and a Masters degree in Business Law by Lusíada University of Porto (2013; 2015), having presented his thesis on the subject of ‘Software Intellectual Property Law in the Information Era’. He also attended postgraduate studies in Medical Law and Pharmaceutical Law at Coimbra University (2014; 2015). Marta Almada is a pharmacist and is currently in the last year of her PhD, in the Biochemistry Department, Faculty of Pharmacy U. Porto. Soon began her interest in science, particularly under reproduction. Her PhD project aims to uncover the role of lipid mediators, the (endo)cannabinoids during decidualization process. Reproductive Biology is her passion and understanding the biomolecular mechanisms, signaling pathways and cellular changes that underpin human reproduction and impact women’s health keen her motivation.

Evelyn Soto holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP-Brazil) and also a degree on Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM-Peru). Her expertise includes Innovation and Intellectual Property (patents). She is currently an Innovation Fund (Fincyt) adviser at the Science and Technology Program from the Government of Peru.

Paulo Cardoso is graduated in Applied Physics at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, MSc in Biomedical at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto and holds a PhD in Physics at Universidade do Minho. He has research experience in polymer nanocomposites, multiferroic magnetic nanomaterials, biomedical engineering, optical fiber sensors, lasers and magneto-optics materials. He attended short-term courses in medical physics and medical imaging and also a 2-years internship in knowledge transfer at CERN.

Born and living in Porto, Pedro attended Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP): first he studied Economics and then International Management. Since 2005, he has worked in five companies: three big ones, on telecoms and advertising; and two smaller, a cork industry and an art gallery. Together with four partners he created, in 2008, 20|21 Conservação e Restauro, a restoration company specialized in contemporary art that works for the Serralves Museum, the European Parliament and four PSI20 companies. Nowadays, he divides himself between commercializing technologies in the University of Porto and launching a project that gathers design, urbanism and local development.

João Teixeira de Oliveira holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering (3B's-Univ of Minho, PT / Univ of Sheffield, UK), a Master's degree in Medicine (Integrated Master's degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto) and a degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. He also has a post-graduate degree in Biostatistics for Health Sciences from the Univ of Minho. He is the author / co-author of more than 30 publications in journals, book chapters and inventor / co-inventor of patents. He was Coordinating Professor of the Polytechnic Higher Education until February 2016. He is currently a medical doctor (common year internship) and a consultant in the chemical-biological area.

José Melo is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto. José started his PhD in September 2010, with the Ocean Systems Group at FEUP, and later on, in 2011 he joined the Robotics and Intelligent Systems unit of INESC TEC as a researcher. Prior to his PhD, José was also working for two years as a Software Engineer, at CERN, in Geneve, Switzerland.

Microbiologist with a PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (FFUP), Sara Baptista da Silva, participated in 7 scientific projects, more than 20 training courses/seminars, co-supervised students (BSc/MSc) and received 5 awards/distinctions, including: a merit award in 2012 by the Portuguese-American Foundation, COHiTEC program (Business School, UP). The PhD thesis resulted in, several publications, and in a provisional patent application by the Innovation Office of UP. Also co-founder of Blendera®-food solutions, project created in 2011 and headquartered in the Science and Technology Park of UP (UPTEC-TECH).

Mariana Leão is graduated in Microbiology through ESB-UCP (2008) and has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sicences-Microbiology through FFUP (2014). Currently is a researcher in the Serviço de Microbiologia from FFUP. Mariana has been always involved in the microbiology research area. Your PhD was focused in the p53 family, particularly in the development of yeast cell systems for the pharmacological screening of p53 family modulators. Your scientific activity is focused in Health Sciences, particularly in Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Molecular and Cell Biology.

Tiago dos Santos got his degree in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Coimbra and his PhD in Nanomedicine, at the Centre for BionanoInteractions, Ireland. Currently, he is a postdoctoral investigator at I3S, Portugal, involved in different projects such as nanoparticle functionalization as a screening methodology for early diagnosis of invasive gastric cancer and more recently, engineering cellular models of gastric wall with the purpose of stomach regeneration.

Catarina Miranda is a Computer Sciences’ PhD candidate at PIC – FCUP and IT Porto. Holding a Master degree in Biomedical engineering since 2011, she focuses her studies in computer vision and graphics applications and business innovation. In the past, she worked in companies like Siemens S.A. and Microsoft and was consultant of technology transfer at University of Porto Innovation. Currently, her pursuit is to deploy on-the-fly facial animation with MoCap systems for Virtual Reality as practical applications dissolving boundaries between academy and industry.

Having concluded her Master in Bioengineering in 2013, Biological Engineering branch, and having developed her Master thesis in The Netherlands, Rita Lemos now intends to pursue an international career as a researcher. Rita is a colaborator on the technology transfer process and is mainly involved in the analysis of patenteability and the establishment of comercial contacts with potential colaborators.

João Moura graduated in Physics Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto in 2014. His MSc dissertation focused on the study of optical fiber sensors, in collaboration with INESC TEC. He attended ETH Zürich through the Erasmus Programme and participated in CERN's Summer School, integrating an anti-matter research group. He collaborated with U.Porto Inovação between May and December 2014, providing support in the technical analysis of patentability and in the commercialization of technologies developed at UP.

Diogo Baía is associated with the UPinTech program since February 2014. He graduated in Microbiology from the College of Biotechnology (Portuguese Catholic University) in 2006 and continued his training in Barcelona obtaining a Master’s degree in Immunology awarded by the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2007. Recently, October 2014, he obtained a PhD in Biomedicine from the Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona). Diogo performs tasks related to the protection of intellectual property and licensing of technologies developed by researchers at the University that are linked with Health.

Christian Wimmler is a PhD candidate in the Sustainable Energy Systems MIT Portugal Program in Porto. His work focusses on renewable energy technologies, mainly offshore ones, energy planning and management. He graduated from the University of Applied Science Kufstein, Austria, with a BA in European Energy Business in 2010. During his BA he has also studied one year Economics and International Business Relations in Mexico. In 2011 he received a MSc with distinction in Renewable Energy Enterprise and Management from Newcastle University, UK.

Ana Cavadas holds Master degree in Environmental Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto and is now working at U.Porto Inovação in the framework of the project MARECON.PT – Translating marine science into products and services for the Portuguese economy. MARECON.PT is a project in partnership with CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research that aims at the maximisation of the economic potential of the R&D results. Ana is responsible for the screening and evaluation of technologies derived from the CIIMAR’s R&D projects. Her work aims to outline effective valorisation and commercialisation strategies, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in marine research.

Antonio do Aido works as a technology and energy consultant for multinational companies and NGOs. Leads the PowerMill project - renewable energy, mini power plants. Collaborated with U.Porto Inovação as a technology and intellectual property analyst. At CERN he worked for the CLIC project. Participated in ESA’s Parabolic Flights. ELGRA contest winner: Best European student microgravity experiment. Finalist at the ESA’s Success contest. As a young scientific researcher he worked at the FemtoLab laboratory, where he wrote his graduation thesis: Study of Slow Light effect in a Ruby Crystal. He studied Physics Engineering and Construction Engineering at the University of Porto.

Isabel Coutinho has a Degree in Biology and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, specialization in Microbiology. Isabel was an internee at U.Porto Inovação from June to December 2013, an opportunity to get more familiarized with the process of intellectual property protection. At the moment, Isabel is a postdoc in an internationally renowned laboratory at Adelaide, Australia, working on new approaches to treat prostate cancer. The translational nature of her project will definitely benefit from the tools she acquired while an internee at U.Porto Inovação.

Bruno Moreira has studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minho and has a specialization in Medical Electronics. He developed his master's thesis at Universität Freiburg, under the ERASMUS program. He began his professional career as an assistant researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (INEB), developing a screening tool for Fabry's disease using chromatography images. He is now working at Creative Bitbox as a software engineer in the computer vision and interactive content fields.

Rita Seabra has been working as a science researcher since she graduated in 2004 in Biochemistry having obtained her Doctor degree in 2012 from the University of Porto. Rita has expertise mostly in plant science, particularly in the field of plant-microbe interactions having worked at Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology in Porto (IBMC) and the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne. She is currently a Post-doc researcher at IBMC.

Renato Vasconcelos is an Associate Principal at InnoCentive, a leading organisation in open innovation and crowdsourcing, where he supports organisations from the private and public sectors to source solutions to their most prominent challenges. Previously he worked in technology transfer offices, such as U.Porto Inovação and Imperial Innovations. Renato holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Imperial College (leading to 2 patent fillings) and a degree in Environmental Engineering from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (Oporto, Portugal).

Daniel Vasconcelos is PhD student at INEB. Early on in his academic life. he has been involved in research in Healthcare, completing the integrated master in bioengineering at FEUP/ICBAS (Univ. Porto) in 2011. Daniel has been working to develop innovative solution in biomedical engineering in collaboration with laboratories, hospitals and companies in Portugal, France and Germany.
